Government Accountant

Cobham is seeking a Government Accountant that will support the company's financial compliance efforts by maintaining sound financial policies & procedures, performing periodic audits and documenting results and identifying and implementing corrective actions to address weaknesses; ensure that all required financial certifications and disclosures to the US Government are reviewed annually and amended as necessary; ensure continued monitoring and maintenance of approved business systems and processes required to do business with the US Government; leverage internal financial processes and procedures by utilizing Group resources where possible. This position is located in Orchard Park, NY.
Responsibilities:
Maintain company-wide financial policies and procedures, developing new procedures as necessary
Conduct routine audits on a rotating basis of all accounting cycles and minimum control standards
Support government proposal, rate and system audits
Maintain and regularly update key government certifications and compliance statistics as necessary
Support the maintenance of the company's annual disclosure statement
Perform analysis as necessary to support the VP Finance and Compliance Accounting Manager
Proactive use of internet resources to establish best practice guidance and improve knowledge base
Assist in the development of process improvements to reduce non-value added, redundant and manual activities.
Responsible for ensuring that Environmental, Health, and Safety are included as part of daily activities.
Timely submission of current, accurate, complete forward pricing and incurred cost rate packages
Assure adherence to Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR), Truth in Negotiations Act (TINA) and Cobham policies and procedures
Minimum Requirements:
Completed Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
Minimum of two years' accounting and financial reporting
Minimum of one year experience with internal financial control structure
Experience with ERP System and Advanced Excel experience
This position requires access to technology, materials, software or hardware that is controlled by export laws of the US. In order to be eligible you must be either a US Citizen or Permanent Resident.
Preferred:
Oracle ERP strongly preferred
Experience with internal or public auditing
Experience with DCMA (Defense Contract Management Agency) or DCAA (Defense Contract Audit Agency)
Experience with calculating overhead rates in a government contractor environment
Self-directed and motivated to work independently but flex into a team setting as necessary
Methodical and organized
Analytical and highly numerate
Excellent time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
